Whether you’re coming for fresh tulips, spring photos, or a relaxing afternoon in the country, here’s everything you need to know before heading to the blooms.
When does Rural Route Bulbs open for the season?
Our Fall Creek tulip farm opens each May during spring bloom season. This year, guests can look forward to you-pick tulips, pre-cut bouquets, and special spring events that make your visit even more memorable. If you’re searching for a spring flower farm near Eau Claire, this is the perfect time to plan your trip.
What should I wear to Rural Route Bulbs?
Dress for a real Wisconsin spring day. May can bring sunshine, breezes, soft ground, and a little mud, so we recommend wearing boots or comfortable shoes you don’t mind getting dirty. Layers are a great idea too, especially if you’re planning to stay awhile and enjoy the fresh country air.
How does you-pick work?
t’s easy, fun, and honestly a little addictive. Stop by the garden area to pick up a mason jar, then head into the field to choose your favorite blooms. No scissors are needed — just grab each tulip stem near the bottom and pull straight up from the ground. That gives you a nice long stem for arranging at home. We’ll also share flower care tips so your bouquet stays beautiful longer. You-pick tulips are $30 per mason jar.
Can I relax in the flower field?
Yes — and we hope you do. Bring your own blanket, lawn chairs, picnic, kite, or outdoor games and enjoy a slower pace surrounded by flowers. Rural Route Bulbs is more than a quick stop; it’s a chance to unwind, wander, and soak up a little spring magic in the Wisconsin countryside. The open country can be breezy, so plan accordingly.
Can I take photos?
Absolutely. Our tulip and flower fields are made for photos, whether you’re snapping family pictures, couple shots, kid moments, or just your latest bouquet. It’s one of the most scenic photo spots near Eau Claire in spring for flower lovers and families alike. If you’re taking casual photos, you’re welcome to capture as many as you’d like. For professional photography sessions, please call ahead to schedule. Rural Route Bulbs also offers sessions with our in-house photographer, Kari Pritzl. Learn more and schedule today.
Can I bring my pet?
No pets, please. We know they’re part of the family, but for the safety of guests, flowers, and the working farm, pets are not allowed at the flower farm.
Is the flower farm handicap accessible?
Yes. Our parking lot and field are handicap accessible, and the flowers are planted in wide rows to make the experience easier to navigate. Because this is a grassy field, the ground can be uneven in places, and some extra effort may be needed for wheelchair use. We’re always happy to help make your visit as comfortable as possible.
Where do I park?
Please park only in the designated parking area near the garden. Rural Route Bulbs is part of a working farm, and other areas may be used for planting operations and heavy equipment. Staying within the garden and visitor areas helps keep everyone safe and protects the rest of the farm.
How do I keep my flowers fresh after I get home?
A little flower care goes a long way. When you get home, empty the mason jar, rinse the bottom of the stems with cool, clean water, and cut the tulip stems at a 45-degree angle before placing them back in fresh water right away. For daffodils, rinse the stems and let them rest on a flat surface for about an hour so the sap can drain before arranging them. We’ll give you our best tips at the farm so your fresh-picked flowers look gorgeous for as long as possible.
